Adjust the Color and Intensity of Light after Installation

In-field provisioning is a powerful lighting feature that is becoming popular in outdoor and indoor locations where adjustments to the intensity or CCT of the light may need to be made after installation. The interface for a user to adjust the lighting settings can be done in many different manners, including a wireless application or physical means such as dials or switches. The key element is to ensure there is an intelligent controller within the fixture to receive the indications of intensity and/or CCT and adjust the levels as requested. After adjustments, the fixture may maintain these settings and output a static illumination output.

Street Lights

Street lights are essential to offer safe circulation of the public; but they can also be aesthetic features for a street, park or parking lot. When installing street lights into a space, there may not be certainty on what the proper intensity is required for safety or what CCT of light would best match with other street lights or other illumination sources in the area. In-field provisioning can allow for optimization of the fixtures in terms of intensity and/or CCT to be set after installation. This can also allow for a reduction in SKUs required by a fixture manufacturer as any CCT requested could be sent and configured on site.

Commercial Lights

Lighting within commercial spaces like offices and retail are traditionally static in maximum intensity and CCT.  In many cases though, the use of the commercial space changes over time, due to different products being sold or a new tenant moving in.  Using light fixtures with in-field provisioning in commercial installations can allow for adjustments to be easily made to the lighting for new purposes of the space without requiring the replacement of existing functioning fixtures.

Using APT Intelligent Controllers to Set Fixtures In Field Using Physical or Wireless Control

Arkalumen offers APT controllers that are purpose designed to implement in-field provisioning solutions within fixtures in a simple and flexible manner. Depending on the method of in-field adjustment desired and specifications of the fixture, the standard APT-CC and APT-CV2 controllers can enable a tunable white solution that can be set for static white applications. Custom configurations for the controllers can allow solutions to be customized to the light fixture’s needs. Arkalumen also offers the APT-FW controller that uses dip switches to set CCT levels which can be used for in-factory setting of CCT or in-field setting if the dip switches are designed to be accessible.
