AMBIENT LIGHT DETECTION INTEGRATED NEXT TO BRIGHT LEDS

OTTAWA, ON (CANADA) January 27, 2015 – Arkalumen today was granted U.S. Patent No. 8,941,308 enabling its core technology for integrated daylight sensing targeted at streetlights and other high power intelligent lighting applications. The revolutionary technology allows for ambient light sensing by photometric sensors embedded deeply within an array of mid- or high-brightness LEDs by utilizing the rapid switch rate of LEDs coupled with processing power of the LED controller itself.

Sean Murray, President and CEO of Arkalumen, compared the technology to a “smart camera shutter that cycles through at a speed so fast the human eye cannot detect it.” This patent complements Arkalumen’s growing line of granted patents and intellectual property within the general illumination LED lighting space, with the aim of launching a robust series of intelligent lighting controllers by Fall 2015.
